The Split Marathon is an event originated from the Split Half Marathon organized by Maraton klub Marjan, which as an association has existed and has been operating since 2000 and Maratonist j.d.o.o. In addition to the Split Marathon event, MK Marjan continuously organizes the Marjan League (weekly 5 km or 10 km race on Marjan), the Marjan Skalinada Race (819 steps from Matejuška to Telegrin), the Christmas Race (3 and 10 km races) and it organizes travelling and participation in races for club members.
The preparation and implementation of the event is led throughout the year by the Split Marathon Organizing Committee, which operates on a volunteer basis and has grown to 25 permanent members.
The beginnings of the Split Half Marathon go back to 2001 when it was held for the first time. In the first years it was held exclusively in the area of Marjan Forest Park, and since 2007 it has been held with the start and the finish line on the Riva waterfront as part of St. Dujam’s celebration. In 2015, the course is changed, it retains the start and finish line on the Riva waterfront, but is circular and through big part of the city and near all of its most interesting symbols.
In 2016, the Split Half Marathon changes its date to the last weekend in February, which has resulted in a significant and continuous increase in the number of participants. The increase in the number of participants also increases the number of accompanying events such as a sports fair and kids’ races.
In 2020, a full marathon was held with a relay marathon in addition to the already traditional half marathon, the Slobodna Dalmacija Trophy (5 km race) and dm kids’ mile.
In 2021, due to epidemiological measures, the date will change and the Split Marathon will be held in full program as the year before. See you!
